A PLACE OF TRADITION

ABOUT MADERA

WELCOME TO RESTAURANT MADERA – AN ICONIC BELGRADE LANDMARK WITH A RICH HISTORY AND AN IRRESISTIBLE GASTRONOMIC HERITAGE

Our restaurant is much more than a culinary experience — it's where Belgrade's history meets hospitality at its finest.

KAFANA SMEDEREVO

Long before Madera, the iconic Kafana Smederevo stood here — a lively meeting spot for coachmen and workers, where stories and camaraderie flowed just as freely as the drinks.

1937
THE FIRST MADERA RESTAURANT

A multi-story building was built, and its ground floor housed the Madera Kafana-Restaurant. It quickly became a favorite spot for the city's bohemians, known as "Maderaši."

2003
THE NEWLY RENOVATED MADERA

In May 2003, Restaurant Madera was given its modern look, marking the beginning of a new chapter in its storied history.

2025
MADERA TODAY

After more than 20 years in business, Restaurant Madera remains a symbol of one of Belgrade's finest treasures.

MEET OUR CREATIVE CHEF

Milan Delić, the head chef of Restaurant Madera, began his career here in 2003 as a sous chef. Before joining our family, he worked at the former restaurant Školjka and at Filmski Grad, where he laid the foundation for his future success. Throughout his journey, he had the privilege of working alongside many renowned chefs, from whom he absorbed invaluable knowledge and experience. His exceptional talent, dedication, and relentless drive for improvement have made him the natural leader of our kitchen. Milan has earned the trust and respect of all his colleagues through his hard work and perseverance, becoming the heart of our team.

“Madera is to Belgrade what ‘Maxim’s’ is to epicurean, hedonistic Paris, what ‘Mama Lene’ is to New York, ‘Gigi Faci’ to Rome, ‘Shtisel’ to Jerusalem, ‘Las Cuevas de Luis Candelas’ to Madrid, ‘U Pinkasů’ to Prague, ‘O Faya’ to Lisbon, ‘Des Nivel Parrilla’ to Buenos Aires, ‘Savoy’ to London, ‘Dan Tana’s’ to Los Angeles, ‘Abou El Sid’ to Cairo, ‘Stolovaya 57’ to Moscow, ‘Botega’ to Melbourne — and the list goes on.”
